McMahon, McMahon & Lentz - Adoption
If you are considering adoption, then you need to speak with an attorney about the procedure and applicable laws. One of the most rewarding experiences can be adopting a child or making the decision that your child should be given for adoption. Ms. Lentz has handled cases where a parent has voluntarily chosen to relinquish their parental rights, and then drafted a Post Adoption Contact Agreement whereby the birth parents were allowed to maintain contact with
their adopted child.
In addition, Ms. Lentz has represented parents in Juvenile Court proceedings where the goal from family reunification has changed to Adoption. It is important to understand the different standards that are applied by the Courts in making decisions that result in Adoption proceedings. If you are a parent of a child that has been adjudicated as dependent, and the Court is deciding whether the goal should be changed to adoption, then the Court must review a list of statutory factors set forth in the Juvenile Code. However, if a Petition to Terminate Parental Rights has been filed in the Orphans' Court, then the Court must review whether a termination of parental rights should be granted based on the statutory grounds for termination. Whether one should consent to an Adoption or contest a Petition to Terminate Parental Rights can be an extremely difficult, and should only be made after proper consultation with counsel.
